Vaccinations
APPOINTMENTVaccines such as the Rabies vaccinations are essential to your dog’s health and are required by law in the state of Illinois. Other vaccines for Distemper, Parvo, Lyme disease and Leptospirosis may also be very important to keeping your pet in good health. Some vaccines may be suggested for social dogs that make regular visits to daycare or grooming facilities. This list includes vaccinations against Kennel Cough and Canine Influenza.
Cats are required to have the Rabies vaccination in the state of Illinois as well. Other vaccinations such as for Lyme disease and Distemper may be recommended. Unlike dogs, cats should be vaccinated with an upper respiratory complex also. Vaccinating against feline leukemia is recommended to cats exposed to the outdoors.
Other pets, some considered “exotic”, may require an even more specialized vaccination program. As we have mentioned, all pets are unique and it will be important to contact Prairie Animal Hospital to speak to one of our trained professionals to see what is recommended for your pet. Our professionals take into a account a variety of factors that could, and should, affect your pet’s vaccination requirements. Those factors will include your pet’s age, exposure to other animals, history, diet, and activity level.
